Gloire Nkundayesu, known as Gloire ATS, is a gospel artist whose personal experiences and spiritual journey have profoundly shaped his music.
Originally from Rwanda and currently based in Quebec, Canada, Gloire ATS has made a significant impact in the gospel music scene. His latest album, Child of God / Enfant de Dieu, marks his third release, following two Kinyarwanda-language albums. Unlike his earlier works, this new project blends English and French, reflecting his growth as an artist and his desire to reach a broader audience with messages of faith, hope, and gratitude.
One of the standout tracks on this album is Roi Jésus, a song that holds particular significance for Gloire. This song was released on this Thursday, December 12, 2024, on his YouTube Channel. As he shares, Roi Jésus is the first song he completed for the album, and its creation deeply influenced the direction of the entire project.
In his words, “Interestingly, its creation and journey shaped the entire album.” This revelation came during a holiday trip, where, after an accident, Gloire found himself forced to pause and reflect more deeply on his life and faith. This period of introspection, he explains, led him to dive into Bible study and songwriting, setting the stage for the rest of the album.
The inspiration for Roi Jésus began with a reflection on Deuteronomy 8:10-14, which urges people to praise God for His blessings. Gloire explained that while meditating on these verses, he realized that while he strives not to be ungrateful to others, he often forgets to acknowledge God’s work in his life. “By nature, I strive not to be ungrateful.
However, I’ve observed how easily people can forget those who have helped them,” he said. This led him to reflect on his relationship with God, realizing that while he might avoid being ungrateful to people, when he sins, he must seek God’s forgiveness quickly to avoid falling into the same ingratitude.
This powerful realization prompted Gloire to pick up his instrument and begin playing as he meditated on these verses. As he puts it, “That’s when Roi Jésus (King Jesus) was born.”
The song became his heartfelt declaration of gratitude to the Lord, recognizing everything God has done in his life—from the gift of salvation to the blessings of family, work, and the very breath of life. “It is in Him that I live,” he states, referencing Acts 17:28, where Paul says, "For in him we live and move and have our being." Gloire’s words echo the deep sense of thankfulness he feels for God’s constant presence and love.
Through Roi Jésus, Gloire ATS encourages others to reflect on their own lives and find their own reasons to thank King Jesus. “As we celebrate His birth each year on December 25th, let’s remember that He is the source of our joy, hope, and peace,” he urges.
He emphasizes that Jesus is not only the King but also the Prince of Peace, whose reign will bring an end to struggles and sorrows. Gloire calls on listeners to join him in celebrating this truth, inviting them to connect with the song’s vibrant Afrobeat rhythms and share in its message of hope.
Roi Jésus is more than just a song; it is a reflection of Gloire’s spiritual journey and his deep connection with both his faith and his roots. He shares, “This is my heartfelt declaration to the Lord, acknowledging all He has done in my life.” The song serves as an invitation for others to reflect on their relationship with God, offering a reminder that gratitude and worship are central to the Christian walk.
As part of his Child of God / Enfant de Dieu album, Roi Jésus embodies Gloire’s journey of faith and transformation. The album, which blends both French and English songs, explores themes of salvation, liberation, and divine love. Songs like Love Letter, Child of God, and Free celebrate the transformative power of God’s presence, while others like Libéré and Vainqueur reflect on freedom from sin and victory through Christ.
In addition to his vocal talents, Gloire is an accomplished musician who plays bass guitar, acoustic guitar, and piano. His music is infused with a variety of influences, including Afrobeat, reggae, and slow rock, creating a sound that is both globally resonant and deeply rooted in his African heritage.
With Child of God / Enfant de Dieu, Gloire has crafted a powerful collection of songs that not only uplift and inspire but also serve as an expression of his gratitude and reverence for God’s grace. As he said, "It is in Him that I live, move, and have my being," and through his music, Gloire invites others to experience the same joy and peace found in Christ.
