The Purpose of Life and God's Calling – Pastor Christian Gisanura

Based on Ephesians 2:10, on March 18, 2026, Pastor Christian Gisanura concluded a teaching series on the calling of a person and the purpose of life.

"For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do." (Ephesians 2:10).

This verse reveals a profound truth about human life: no one exists by accident. We are God’s creation, and we were not made without a purpose. God has planned something for each of us from the beginning, a work for us to walk in.

From this, we can see three essential steps: recognizing that we are God’s creation, understanding our purpose, and walking in good works.

First, “we are God’s handiwork.” This means our lives are of great value. We are not the result of chance events, but the deliberate work of our Creator.

When a person understands this, they begin to respect themselves and realize their responsibility to live meaningfully. God did not create us just to exist; He has given us the gifts, talents, and wisdom to make a difference in the world.

Second, we are “created to do good works.” Each person has a mission to fulfill. This is the purpose of life. Without discovering it, life can feel incomplete because an essential part is missing.

History shows us that some were born to lead, others to innovate, and still others to serve. A person’s blessing is often tied to the work they do; when they fulfill it well, they experience peace, fulfillment, and joy.

Third, “which God prepared in advance for us to do.” Our calling is not a one-day task but a lifelong journey. Walking in this work requires planning, vision, and effort.

One must ask themselves: “What have I achieved? What should I achieve in the future?” Just as nations have development plans, each individual should have a clear life plan. Setting goals, establishing timelines, and reviewing progress regularly are key to achieving one’s purpose.

Faith is not just words—it requires action. If we believe we are meant to accomplish something, we must work for it. God does not miraculously give us success without effort; He empowers us to act and overcome challenges. Blessings accompany diligence and hard work.

Furthermore, our purpose must go beyond personal gain. There is a hierarchy of priorities: God’s glory comes first, the benefit of others comes second, and personal benefit comes third. When we solve problems for others, God is honored, people are blessed, and we experience true joy. This makes life truly meaningful.

Therefore, calling is not limited to the church but extends to daily life. A shoemaker, farmer, teacher, or musician can all serve God in their work. When your work benefits others and is done with integrity, you are walking in your calling.

In conclusion, Pastor Christian Gisanura emphasized that everyone should ask themselves: “What problem am I solving? Who does my life serve? Does what I do glorify God?”

Answering these questions leads to understanding the purpose of life. Those who live with this clarity will, like Jesus finishing His mission on Earth, be able to say: “It is finished,” having fulfilled the work they were created to do.
