Ethiopian Araya Assefa was a friend of President Paul Kagame, and according to reports was the one who represented his father when he married Madam Jeannette Kagame. Araya Assefa died at the age of 89.
The news of Araya Assefa’s death was announced on September 6, 2024. President Kagame announced, through the X website, that Assefa was a good person, saying "I knew Araya Assefa very well. He was a good man. He served the UN. May he rest in peace.!"
As God founded the first family of Adam and Eve, On June 10, 1989, Maj Gen Kagame Paul married Madam Jeannette Kagame who had fled to Kenya with her family, their wedding took place in Uganda.
Assefa is said to be the one who stood in for President Kagame’s father when he got married, he was a close friend of Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, the Ugandan President.
The story of the death of Araya Assefa, who was the Director of the United Nations Children’s Fund, UNICEF in Uganda in the 1980s, started spreading on social media especially on X in the evening of September 5, 2024.
In his time, many remember him as someone who fought against injustice and loved the truth, and that he visited Maj Gen Paul Kagame on different occasions while he was fighting for the liberation of the country (Rwanda) and after that.
Various people have spoken about his death including one named Calvin Mutsinzi on his X wall said that the old man Araya Assefa, who died at the age of 89, was also the father of President Kagame in his father’s place when he got married.
