Teacher Titus Sambay to thank God for 38 years of service in Mamajusi Choir

Tanzanian gospel musician and choir trainer Titus Ezra Sambay has announced a special thanksgiving celebration to mark 38 years of ministry in Mamajusi Choir, one of Tanzania’s most renowned gospel choirs.

The event is scheduled to take place on August 30, 2026, at Holy Trinity Parish in Moshi, under the Anglican Diocese of Mount Kilimanjaro.

In a heartfelt message shared with supporters and fellow believers, Sambay reflected on his long journey in ministry, describing it as a path filled with challenges, trials, and moments when he nearly gave up. However, he said God continually strengthened him and gave him the perseverance needed to continue serving.

"My ministry journey has not been easy. I have faced many obstacles and difficult trials. There were times when I wanted to quit the choir, but God placed a calling and great endurance within me. He strengthened me and continued to develop the gift He had given me," Sambay said.

He also credited his well-known song “Upendo Kuu la Yesu (Alilipa Deni Langu)” for becoming a powerful tool in his ministry and helping spread the Gospel to many people.

"That song brought me honor both on earth and in Heaven, but all the glory belongs to Christ," he added.

The thanksgiving ceremony is expected to bring together various choirs, gospel artists, church leaders, and believers from different regions and countries. Sambay revealed that several prominent figures in Christian ministry, including Yona Sonero and Rose Mhando, have been invited to join him on this special occasion.

He also used the opportunity to ask forgiveness from anyone he may have offended during his years of ministry.

"I may have hurt many people in one way or another. I am only human and not perfect. I ask for your forgiveness, and I pray that we continue living as brothers and sisters in Christ," he said.

Mamajusi Choir: Five Decades of Ministry

Founded in 1975 with only 11 members, Mamajusi Choir has grown into one of Tanzania’s most respected gospel choirs, now boasting more than 86 members.

Over the years, the choir has ministered across several countries, including Malawi, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Kenya, Uganda, and Rwanda, using music as a tool for evangelism and encouragement.

According to Sambay, the choir has faced numerous challenges throughout its history. One of the most difficult moments occurred during the filming of the music video for “Upendo Kuu,” when a serious accident left several choir members injured and Sambay himself with a broken arm.

"We went through a major trial, but God protected us. Despite the severity of the accident, we survived and continued with the ministry," he recalled.

The upcoming celebration will serve as both a thanksgiving event and a testimony of God’s faithfulness throughout decades of gospel ministry, perseverance, and service.
