Pastor Christian Gisanura teaches on advocacy rooted in love for one's nation

In a sermon delivered on May 15, 2026, Pastor Christian Gisanura reflected on a message he titled “Advocacy Born Out of Love for One’s Nation,” a teaching he said he had been meditating on for a long time.

He explained that genuine love for people and for one’s nation is not expressed merely through words, but through actions powerful enough to speak on someone’s behalf before both God and people.

Pastor Gisanura based his teaching on the Biblical story found in Gospel of Luke 7:3-7 and 10, which tells of the Roman centurion who pleaded with Jesus to heal his servant, and Jesus granted the miracle.

In the passage, the Jewish elders appealed to Jesus on behalf of the centurion, saying: “He deserves to have you do this, because he loves our nation and has built our synagogue.”

Reflecting on this story, Pastor Gisanura noted that although the centurion held a high-ranking position in the worldly system, he humbled himself before Jesus and recognized a greater spiritual authority in Him.
He said:

“Imagine this — he was a military commander, while Jesus was just a civilian. But spiritually, Jesus was in the Holy of Holies.”

Pastor Gisanura explained that while many people saw Jesus as an ordinary man, the centurion perceived Him through spiritual eyes and recognized His extraordinary authority. According to him, this understanding came from faith and a heart filled with love.

Referring to the words spoken by the Jewish elders, Pastor Gisanura emphasized that the centurion’s love was not superficial or theoretical. Instead, it was visible through his actions, to the extent that his good deeds later spoke on his behalf when he needed help.

He said: “When you truly love your nation, you do not need to announce it. People see it and recognize it. And when you need something, your love for the nation speaks for you.”

He went on to explain that the idea of a “nation” should not only be understood geographically or politically, but also spiritually. According to him, every believer is called to build and uplift others.
In his words:

“Have a spiritual nation. Love people, carry them, build them spiritually. Advise people and heal broken hearts.”

Pastor Gisanura also highlighted the fact that the centurion did not seek healing for himself, but for his servant, something he described as a sign of true compassion and humanity.
Speaking about the centurion’s faith, he pointed to the statement:

“Just say the word.” He explained that the man fully understood the authority Jesus carried and believed that a single word from Him was enough to completely transform his servant’s condition.

As he concluded the sermon, Pastor Gisanura encouraged people to genuinely love God, love their nation, honor leaders, and care for fellow citizens — but most importantly, to demonstrate that love through action rather than empty words.

He said: “You do not have to keep saying that you love God. Let your actions prove it.”
He added that anyone who dedicates themselves to building others and serving their nation sincerely is planting seeds that will one day speak on their behalf when they need favor, help, or elevation from God.

The sermon carried a strong message about loving and serving others without hypocrisy, emphasizing that acts of love eventually become powerful advocacy before both God and humanity.
