Know Who You Are: Seeing Yourself Through God's Image

Pastor Christian Gisanura continued his February teaching series under the main theme “Knowing Who You Are,” and in this session, he focused on a sub-theme titled “Seeing Yourself in the Image of God.”

In this teaching delivered on February 5, 2026, Pastor Gisanura based his message firmly on Scripture, particularly Genesis 1:26–27 and Exodus 20:4, explaining in depth what humanity represents in God’s divine plan.

Referring to Genesis 1:26–27, which states that God created humankind in His image, Pastor Gisanura clarified that the word “image” does not merely refer to physical appearance, but rather to representation.

He explained: “When we say that we are made in the image of God, we mean that we are God’s representatives wherever we are. Therefore, our words, our behavior, and our actions must reflect the God we represent.”

He reminded believers that in Exodus 20:4, God forbade the Israelites from making any physical image of Him. Pastor Gisanura explained that this was because God chose people, not statues, to represent Him. This means that a Christian is a ‘walking image’ of God, called to bring Him glory in everyday life.

Pastor Gisanura strongly challenged the mindset held by many people who think that God is only relevant on Sundays. He illustrated this by giving the example of a government spokesperson, explaining that such a person does not represent their country only while in the office, but wherever they go.

In the same way, a Christian represents God everywhere—at work, in the family, in business, and in society. He stated: “When we speak about righteousness and about God, people see us as His representatives. What we do can either glorify God or bring shame to His name.”

He emphasized that many people reject God not because of who God is, but because of the poor behavior of those who claim to be Christians—often forgetting that they are meant to reflect God’s image.

In strong and sobering words, Pastor Gisanura warned that choosing to belong to Christ comes with serious responsibility. Just as national representatives are held accountable when they disgrace their country, Christians who live in sin disgrace Christ Himself. He stressed that Christ will hold such individuals accountable, because they dishonor His name.

He concluded the teaching with a prayer, thanking God for entrusting people to be His servants and ambassadors, and reminding believers that the name “Christian” is a great responsibility that must be carried with honor.

He prayed: “Lord, wherever we go, because we are Christians and Your ambassadors, may people see Christ Himself in us. Help us to live in the image of Christ, so that this name may honor us and we may honor it. May it help us in times of trouble, whether we call upon it or not.”

These teachings by Pastor Christian Gisanura continue to leave a strong impact, reminding every believer that true self-understanding begins with recognizing that we are created in the image of God and called to represent Him on earth, striving to glorify Him in everything we do.
