On Saturday, March 7, 2026, Pastor Christian Gisanura shared a teaching about the covenant between God the Father and His children, and also explained the covenant between Christ and the Church. He reminded Christians that understanding who they are in God is the foundation of a strong life of faith.
While explaining this teaching, Pastor Gisanura referred to the Word of God in Genesis 3:4–6, which shows how the serpent deceived the woman in the Garden of Eden.
In that passage, the serpent told the woman that they would not die if they ate the fruit from the tree God had forbidden. Instead, he said their eyes would be opened and they would know good and evil, becoming like God.
However, Pastor Gisanura explained that when one carefully studies this passage, it becomes clear that the issue was not only deception. There was also desire in the woman’s heart.
He pointed out that the woman clearly knew the command God had given because she told the serpent that they were allowed to eat from all the trees in the garden except one. This shows that she understood what was permitted and what was forbidden.
Despite knowing the truth, her desire to eat from that tree led her to disobey. Furthermore, Satan caused her to doubt who she really was. He told her that if she ate from the tree of knowledge she would become like God. This revealed that the woman was not satisfied with the position God had given her as a human being created in His image.
Pastor Gisanura explained that this problem of being dissatisfied with who we are is one of the main reasons many people fall into sin.
When someone is not satisfied with who God created them to be or with the position they have, they may be tempted to do things that are not allowed. This is what caused Eve to lose her position as the caretaker of the Garden of Eden and the responsibility she had been given.
He explained that when a person does not understand their relationship with God, they may constantly desire things that are not meant for them or attempt to take positions that do not belong to them. For this reason, he encouraged Christians to examine themselves and clearly understand who they are before God.
He continued by explaining that God gave us Jesus Christ to be the mediator between humanity and Himself. Through Jesus, we become children of God and heirs of His promises.
Pastor Gisanura emphasized that every person is unique. No one is exactly like another person. He gave examples such as fingerprints and the human eye, explaining that when they are scanned they clearly identify a specific person. Even a person’s voice is unique. Although billions of people live on earth, each individual has a unique identity and a specific purpose designed by God.
He also referred to Romans 8:16–18, which says: “The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children.”
He explained that the Holy Spirit is the one who confirms and strengthens the covenant between us and God, reminding us that we are His children. Because we are children of God, we are also heirs of His inheritance. He added that even angels are not heirs; the heirs of God are those who belong to Christ Jesus, because they are His children.
He further explained that a child of God receives their inheritance through Christ Jesus. Through Christ, God cares for us as His children and protects us just as a parent protects their child.
To clarify this relationship, Pastor Gisanura said that the covenant between a Christian and God is similar to the relationship between a parent and a child.
He used an example from everyday family life, explaining that a child does not need to constantly remind their parent about school fees, shoes, or food. A responsible parent naturally thinks about these things and provides them because it is their duty.
He said this is also how God relates to His children. There are many things we do not need to repeatedly ask God for because He already knows and cares about them. For this reason, he encouraged Christians not to focus only on prayers of requests, but to build a deeper relationship with God, like a child speaking with a loving parent.
He also explained that when someone asks God for something and truly believes, they should trust that God has heard them. This is a sign of genuine faith.
Pastor Gisanura emphasized that our covenant with God is not only about asking for things, but about living with Him, obeying Him, and trusting Him as a Father. When a person knows that God cares for them as a parent cares for a child, they have no reason to live in fear.
He also spoke about how Satan tempted Eve in the Garden of Eden, causing her to doubt her identity. He explained that Satan also tried to tempt Jesus Christ by challenging His identity. However, Jesus knew exactly who He was in God, and therefore Satan could not defeat Him.
Pastor Gisanura reminded Christians that Satan still tries to attack people through their identity, attempting to make them doubt who God says they are. But he encouraged believers to firmly understand their identity in God and remain faithful to their covenant with Him.
In closing, he encouraged Christians with these words: “Do not doubt who you are. Know your identity in God, because you have a strong covenant with Him. Remain faithful and stand firm in Christ Jesus.”
He concluded by emphasizing that anyone who remains in this covenant lives in God’s security and walks in strong hope.
Amen.
