The Ministry of Local Government in Rwanda, MINALOC, has published a list of 43 organizations based on believe (faith), which should be closed because they do not have legal status.
In a letter issued by MINALOC on August 22, 2024 addressed to all regional leaders, and Regional Executive Leaders, the Minister of Local Government Jean Claude Musabyimana, requested that those organizations based on faith should be stopped.
The letter states that from July 2024, there will be a nationwide inspection of religions and churches, so that those who do not have legal status and others who work illegally should be stopped and their activities stopped.
It is a statement released shortly after the decision of closing more than 8000 temples in Rwanda, because they do not meet the requirements, including the fact that they were built in places that could endanger worshipers and the presence of religious leaders and churches who did not learn about it.
The President of the Republic Paul Kagame recently said that those who say that he doesn’t know about the decisions that are being made about illegal religions and churches, that they are wrong because he knows very well and will not tolerate those who carry beliefs that aim to steal from Rwandans.
