Mama Jusi Choir from Moshi, Tanzania prepares to celebrate 50 years of serving God

Mama Jusi Choir, which serves at the Anglican Church of Holy Trinity in Moshi, Tanzania, is preparing for a grand celebration to mark 50 years of ministry through gospel music and preaching.

The celebration will be held on September 28, 2025, starting at 8:00 AM at Holy Trinity Church in Moshi, where the choir regularly leads worship services.

Mama Jusi Choir is among the most well-known and influential choirs in East Africa, having made a significant impact in spreading the Gospel of Jesus Christ both within Tanzania and beyond its borders. Now, the choir is ready to glorify God for all He has enabled them to accomplish over the past five decades.

Founded in 1975 with only 11 members, Mama Jusi Choir has grown into a large and vibrant group of over 86 choir members, comprising both youth and elders, all united by a single mission: to sing and proclaim the greatness of God.

Over the years, the choir has undertaken evangelism missions in various countries including Malawi, the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Kenya, Uganda, and Rwanda, where they have preached the Gospel through their powerful gospel songs.

The Jubilee celebration will be a unique event featuring various special moments. The program will begin with thanksgiving songs, allowing invited guests to express their gratitude to God for what He has done through Mama Jusi Choir.

Following this, several choirs, including Bethlehem Choir from Moshi, VCC Tanzania Choir, and of course Mama Jusi Choir, will perform. A fundraising event (Harambee) will also be held to raise money for the purchase of modern musical instruments to support the choir’s ongoing ministry.

Distinguished guests expected to attend include: Rev. Selestine Bulemo, who will serve as the Chairperson of the event, Hon. Yonah Sonelo, the Guest of Honor, Pastor Daniel Mgogo, who will preach the Word of God on the day.

As part of the celebration, Titus Ezra Sambay, the choir’s lead director, has taken a personal step in releasing a new gospel song titled "Mungu Unanipenda" (meaning “God Loves Me”), which was officially launched on July 1, 2025. The song is a collaboration with Rose Muhando, one of the most renowned international gospel artists.

Titus shared that he wrote the song to personally thank God for His love and strength throughout his musical journey:
“This song is my testimony and expression of gratitude to God for His love and the strength He has given me in this journey.”

He emphasized that the song is not an official Mama Jusi Choir project, but a solo project and is available on his personal YouTube channel called Titus Band, where listeners from around the world can stream it.

Celebrating 50 years of service is no small feat. Mama Jusi Choir is inviting everyone, whether choir members, churchgoers, gospel music lovers, or the general public, to attend this thanksgiving event and honor what God has done and continues to do through them.

Those who wish to support the choir financially can contribute through: CRDB Bank Account: 0152 3243 088 00, Mobile Money via MIXX BY YAS: 06789 967 79.
Choir director Titus Ezra emphasized that this is not just a choir event, but a time to remember that God is the one who has built, protected, and blessed those who serve Him through the ministry of music.

In his own words, during an interview with Paradise media, he said:
“I invite all of you to our 50th anniversary celebration. Let us come together to thank God, reflect on where He has brought us from, and commit to continue serving Him with strength and grace.”

This golden jubilee celebration of Mama Jusi Choir will not only honor God, but also strengthen unity among gospel music lovers and help push the choir forward into a new chapter of impactful ministry.
