Pastor Christian Gisanura explains that serving God is not limited to church roles, but is a calling given to everyone, wherever they are and whatever they do.
Who is God’s work for?
“And ye shall serve the LORD your God, and he shall bless thy bread and thy water; and I will take sickness away from the midst of thee.” (Exodus 23:25)
We wake up in the morning and go out to look for work, seeking daily bread for our children and ways for what we do to grow. There are also others who have nowhere to go because they have nothing; the world often calls them unemployed because they have no job.
However, in this passage, the Bible shows us that everyone has been given a task by God, and that task has a reward. The one who works receives wages, and even the one who seems to have nothing has been given something by God; they already have what God prepared for them.
The problem is that many people think that serving God means being a priest, a pastor, a singer, an evangelist, or a deacon. That is a lie.
Everyone has been given a task to serve God in their own way and according to their own strength. Imitating others only leads to exhaustion, which is why many people end up not serving God at all.
In His work, what God expects from us every day includes the following:
1. To live righteously in times of joy and in times of difficulty, and to remain in constant fellowship with Him as a sign of our faith.
2. To be His instrument so that others may know God or grow closer to Him.
3. To give glory to God as our daily way of worship—at work, at home, among friends, and everywhere else.
If God asks us to serve Him, it is because there is a reward. This verse shows us three ways God rewards those who serve Him:
1. He will bless your bread.
This means your material resources will be blessed. If you do not yet have what provides you with daily bread, you will receive it or the wisdom to find it; and if you already have resources, they will bring peace and will increase. This material growth will benefit you and your family.
2. He will bless your water.
This is a spiritual blessing. Water is often a symbol of the Holy Spirit. Therefore, your spiritual life will grow; you will overcome Satan and his works, grow in your knowledge of God, and walk with Him day by day.
3. He will take sickness away from among you.
This means Satan will no longer find an entry point into your home, your body, your work, your thoughts, or any other area of your life. Sickness often prevents things that should go well from doing so. God will close all those doors, and life will become sweet again.
In order for this to be possible, we need Jesus to live in us, to trust Him, and to walk with Him in everything. If you desire this, pray with me and say:
Lord Jesus, I believe that You are my Savior and my King. From today on, live in me and transform my life into Your work, because I know this is what You created me for and why You have preserved me until today. Help me to remain faithful every day, in Your mighty name, Jesus. Amen.
