The song “Uriyo” by Alicia and Germaine, written by Niyo Bosco, has reignited faith in many listeners by reminding them that God is near, undefeated, and actively present in our battles. For some, it’s not just a song, it’s a deeply personal testimony that has brought tears to their eyes.
Acclaimed gospel poet Ira Badena, known for his moving and faith-filled spoken word pieces, shared his emotional journey after listening to the song:
“Listening to this song ‘URIYO’ reminds me of the God who stood by me when no one else could. When I was 10, I survived a traumatic accident, my right foot was nearly torn off, and I suffered a serious head injury. Doctors did their best, but true healing came from God.
Years later, the pain returned. Doctors recommended a full leg amputation. But through prayer, God healed me again.
In 2023, I began suffering from intense, unexplained headaches that made studying at university nearly impossible. Tests came back clean, but the pain was real. One night during a service, a preacher laid hands on me and declared, ‘Kira!’ From that moment, the headaches were gone.
Now I study with a clear mind and walk in strength. This song reminds me: Uriyo, above the heavens, on earth, and even in the depths.
When doctors couldn’t help and friends couldn’t understand, God stood by me. I testify: everything will be alright in Jesus’ name. Amen.”
This powerful reflection from Ira Badena echoes the central message of “Uriyo”: God is never far, and He begins where human strength ends. He shows up in our weakness and heals what others cannot touch.
About the Song “Uriyo”
“Uriyo” by Alicia and Germaine is not shrouded in mystery, it’s filled with the raw power of God’s presence. As the artists themselves affirm, the song carries no hidden meanings other than the declaration that God fights our visible and invisible battles.
The two sisters from Rubavu, Rwanda, Alicia and Germaine, have captured the hearts of many through their worship music. Their latest song “Uriyo,” released on June 5, 2025, has gone viral and deeply touched the gospel music scene.
Speaking with Paradise, they revealed that while “Uriyo” came out powerfully, its studio recording process was unexpectedly difficult.
“It was the hardest song we’ve ever recorded in terms of vocals,” they said. “But it’s been the most well-received one so far, especially on YouTube and in personal messages we’ve received.”
The song was written by Niyo Bosco, a former secular artist who has since fully embraced gospel music. The video was directed by Big Deal, and the audio production was handled by Popieeh.
Inspired by Psalm 35:3, which says: “Draw also the spear and the battle-axe to meet those who pursue me; say to my soul, ‘I am your salvation.’”
“Uriyo” proclaims that God has lifted a spear on behalf of His people — a sign that He fights for us, even in spiritual realms. The song’s message has deeply moved many, including Ira Badena himself, who confessed it brought back memories of severe trials he faced as a child — moments when God alone saved his life.
“God stood for me when no one else did... This song reminds me that Uriyo, above the heavens, on earth, and in the depths,” he declared.
