The Archbishop of Canterbury in England, Justin Welby, resigned from his duties on Tuesday
His resignation read: "I have decided to resign as Archbishop of Canterbury, Your Majesty."
It was later revealed that he did nothing after receiving reports of 130 boys being abused by Bishop John Smyth.
Last week it was revealed that in 2013, Bishop Welby was presented with a report detailing the abuse of these boys by Bishop John Smyth in the Christian schools he was director of in the 1970s and 1980s.
In this report, it is revealed that Bishop Welby could have notified the national authorities to track down Symth before he died, but he did not.
Sources say that in 1984, Smyth moved to Africa and continued to abuse children until his death in 2018.
