Divine Muntu's new song “Igicaniro” urges believers to return to the altar

Rwandan gospel worship minister Divine Nyinawumuntu, widely known as Divine Muntu, has unveiled a new song titled “Igicaniro” (The Altar), a worship anthem carrying a message of repentance, consecration, and a renewed relationship with God.

Released on May 29, 2026, the song becomes the latest addition to Divine Muntu’s growing gospel music catalog since she embarked on her solo ministry.

According to the singer, the song was penned by Antoinette Rehema, who received the inspiration through a spiritual encounter.

Speaking about the song’s background, Divine revealed that Rehema shared with her how the Holy Spirit impressed upon her the need for believers to return to the altar and seek spiritual cleansing.

“Antoinette Rehema told me that the Holy Spirit reminded her that people should draw near to the altar and be purified. After a period of prayer, God revealed to her that I was the one chosen to deliver this message through music,” she explained.

Through its lyrics, “Igicaniro” calls on people everywhere to worship and serve God with reverence, recognizing His holiness and the fact that He cannot dwell with impurity. The song challenges listeners to examine their lives and renew their commitment to God.

Beyond its call to holiness, the song is also filled with gratitude, celebrating God’s faithfulness and the countless ways He continues to work in the lives of His people. Divine Muntu encourages believers to humble themselves before God and offer heartfelt thanksgiving for His goodness.

Over the years, Divine Muntu has emerged as one of the promising voices in Rwanda’s gospel music scene. Known for her distinctive vocal ability and passion for worship, she began singing at a young age through various church choirs before launching her solo career in 2022 while still a secondary school student.

Her ministry continued to grow in 2023 when she joined Trinity For Support Label, a gospel music platform founded by Uwifashije Frodouard, popularly known as Obededomu, who is also a journalist with Paradise Magazine.

To date, Divine Muntu has released several songs, including “Mbeshejweho,” “Urugendo,” “Irembo,” “Lahayiroyi,” “Hozana,” and now “Igicaniro,” which she believes carries a timely message for the Church and society.

In January 2026, the worship minister married Uwitonze Benjamin, a member of Holy Nation Choir ADEPR Gatenga. Benjamin also features among the cast appearing in the music video for “Igicaniro.”

As she continues her musical journey, Divine Muntu says she sees this season as an opportunity to expand her calling and reach more people with the Gospel through worship and praise.
