The Earthly Man and the Heavenly Man in One Person — Pastor Christian Gisanura

In a sermon delivered on June 16, 2026, Pastor Christian Gisanura reflected on the message found in 1 Corinthians 15:40 and beyond, where the Apostle Paul speaks about the existence of both a heavenly body and an earthly body, each possessing its own glory.

Pastor Gisanura explained that the human body we live in on earth is subject to many weaknesses, including sickness, aging, and death. However, he emphasized that believers have the hope of receiving a heavenly body that will be free from all these limitations.

He said: “The body we wear today was designed for this earthly life. It grows old, becomes sick, and eventually dies. But God has prepared another body—a heavenly one—that will be given to those who believe in Him.”

He went on to explain that many of the sins and weaknesses people struggle with are connected to the fleshly nature. According to him, the desires of the natural body often lead people into mistakes, causing them to hurt those they love and even distance themselves from God.

Pastor Gisanura encouraged Christians to learn how to govern their bodies rather than allowing their bodies to govern them. He noted that anyone who learns to control lust, anger, and other fleshly desires is taking important steps toward spiritual maturity.

Referring to Paul’s teaching that the body is “sown perishable but raised imperishable,” he explained that although the earthly body will return to dust, those who have placed their faith in Christ will receive a new and glorious heavenly body.

To illustrate this truth, he referenced the biblical story of Lazarus and the rich man, emphasizing that life continues after death and that people will enter different destinies based on the choices they made during their earthly lives.

Pastor Gisanura also pointed out that many people fall into sin because they fail to control their bodies, whether in public or in private. He stressed that believers should allow themselves to be led by the Spirit rather than by the desires of the flesh.

Drawing from Paul’s words that “the first man was from the earth, while the second man is from heaven,” he explained that everyone who receives Christ experiences a new life in which the “second man” begins to operate within them.

He said: “When Christ comes into your life, He gives you the Spirit that brings life. He gives you the power to overcome anger, hatred, lust, and every other weakness that once controlled you.”

Pastor Gisanura further explained that this new person born in Christ is the one who will inherit the Kingdom of God. Therefore, Christians should strive to live under the guidance of the Holy Spirit rather than being driven solely by earthly desires.

As he concluded his message, Pastor Christian Gisanura called on people to receive Jesus Christ and surrender their lives to Him so that they may receive the Spirit that gives life and empowers them to overcome sin.

He ended with a prayer, asking God to save people from destruction and grant them eternal life. He also prayed that their names would be removed from the book of destruction and written in the Book of Life, so that they may share in God’s everlasting Kingdom.
