A woman named Yvonne Bantegeye from Nyankenke Sector in Gicumbi District, axed her husband named Selemani after one week of their wedding, showing God and people that they are going to be together forever.
This happened in Gaseke Village, Kigogo Cell in Gicumbi District, in the North of Rwanda, and they had a marriage that has been prayed for, for a long time to be successful, wishing them to have sons and daughters like everyone else.
The people say that the woman hit her husband with an ax because of a disagreement over the amount of gifts they received at their wedding.
One of the people told Radio/TV1 thanks to this story: "The man who got engaged on Sunday, asked the woman about how they should use gifts they were given her the wedding saying ‘we have money that we took from the wedding, let’s use them by paying our debts?”
The woman said things it’s all mine. She ended up hitting him with an axe.”
Another said: "Looking at the main reason, a woman wanted to collect wealth for herself, she wanted to have a bigger role in it than her spouse."
The Executive Secretary of Nyankeke Sector, Jana Uwera, confirmed this information and said that the woman has already been arrested, saying "We are aware of this matter, the victim has been taken to the doctor, we are confident that he will recover." And this woman was delivered to Byumba station by RIB.”
The person who was hit with an ax is reported to be sick at CHUK Hospital in Kigali City.
In this Nyankenke sector, there are about 46 families living in conflict.
