President Paul Kagame together with the President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), Dr Patrice Motsepe, officially inaugurate the renovated Amahoro Stadium which can host 45,000 people on this Monday, July, 1, 2024.
Paul Kagame said "First of all let me thank brother Patrice Motsepe of CAF and another brother, FIFA President, Gianni Infantino, both of them are the ones who made us build such a sports infrastructure.
They have done a lot to support Rwanda and other African countries to raise the level of African football at such venues, African children find a place to move and train the great talent we have on our continent."
He continued: “In fact, this will allow us to raise more talent in our country instead of taking it from abroad all the time. People will continue to go where they want to go, but even here we will achieve something depending on what we want to do. I want to thank you all for today, a great day for Rwanda and football and we will do even better."
At the end of his speech, he said, “The next time I will come here, I want to watch the Rwandan team versus the best teams on the African continent playing. Let me conclude by saying that according to the talent available and the way to improve the talent, Rwanda will definitely win, Rwanda will win, Rwanda will be one of the best teams on the African continent."
The Amahoro Stadium has the capacity to host all types of events and ceremonies, with comfortable seating, in a covered area. Outside the stadium there is a training ground, as well as basketball, tennis and volleyball courts.
Amahoro Stadium has a capacity to host 45 thousand people, built on an area of 75 thousand square meters. The height of the building from the ground to the top is 40 meters.
It is an international level stadium, which gives Rwanda the opportunity to be a country that stands on its own in terms of sports infrastructure because it has similar facilities for other sports.
