The National Electoral Commission has announced provisional results in the elections showing that Paul Kagame who was nominated by the FPR INKOTANYI won the leadership of Rwanda with 99.18% of the votes.
These elections were held on the 14th for Rwandans living abroad and on the 15th of July 2024 for those living inside the country. Provisional statistics also show that Dr. Frank Habineza of the Democratic Green Party of Rwanda got 0.50% while Philippe Mpayimana who campaigned as an independent candidate got 0.32% of votes.
The first primary vote was announced on the evening of July 15, 2024, which also showed that Paul Kagame was in the lead with 99.15% of the votes, but there were still more than two million votes that had not yet been counted.
The President of the Electoral Commission, Odda Gasinzigwa said that in the 9 071 157 Rwandans had to vote, the total number of voters was 8 907 876.
The number of correct voters is 98.07% while the number of absentees is 0.14%. Gasinzigwa said that the final vote will be announced no later than July 20, 2024.
Philippe Mpayimana and Dr. Frank Habineza who were competing with Paul Kagame admitted that they lost, and thanked the winner and wished him good luck.
66-year-old Paul Kagame began to lead Rwanda in March 2000 in a transitional manner. In 2003, he was elected for the first mandate in the first elections that took place after the Genocide against the Tutsis.
