On Thursday, October 9, 2025, Rwanda awoke to the heartbreaking news of the passing of Marie Immaculée Ingabire, the Chairperson of Transparency International Rwanda, an organization committed to fighting corruption and injustice.
The sorrowful announcement came in the morning, through a post on Transparency International Rwanda’s social media platforms, confirming that Ingabire had passed away after battling an illness for some time. She died at the age of 64, leaving behind a significant void in the fight for truth, justice, and human rights in Rwanda.
Marie Immaculée Ingabire was widely known as one of the country’s most vocal and tireless advocates for justice and transparency. She was one of the 20 founding members of Transparency International Rwanda in 2004 and was elected to lead the organization in 2015, a role she held until her passing.
During her leadership, Ingabire was known for her bold and truthful voice, unafraid to speak out against wrongdoing. She was admired for her straightforward speech, which consistently pointed out injustices and failures, always grounded in truth and the rule of law.
She was also recognized as a strong advocate for the rights of women and girls, pushing for their voices to be heard in decision-making spaces and in everyday life. Her dedication, humility, and courage earned her deep respect and affection from many Rwandans.
As believers, we are reminded that death is not the end, but rather a doorway to eternal life. In the Word of God, we find comfort and hope in the promise of everlasting life for those who believe and walk in His ways.
Jesus Himself said: “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die.” (John 11:25)
This powerful promise reminds us that believers will rise again on the last day.
Marie Immaculée Ingabire was a model of a life lived in service to others, committed to justice, truth, and dignity. While she is no longer physically with us, we firmly believe that God can receive her into His eternal kingdom, just as He promised to all who put their faith in Him.
“Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord from now on.” (Revelation 14:13)
The death of Marie Immaculée Ingabire is a great loss to the nation, to the Transparency International Rwanda family, and to all who valued her role in building a society rooted in truth, justice, and sustainable development.
And yet, we hold on to the hope that we will see her again, in the life to come.
