Israel Mbonyi responds after public appeal to help fellow Gospel Singer Theo Bosebabireba, whose wife is critically ill with kidney failure
Rwandan gospel star Israel Mbonyi has responded to a heartfelt public appeal from journalists KNC and Mutabaruka Angéli of TV1 and others in general, who had called on him and other gospel artists to assist fellow musician Theo Bosebabireba, whose wife is critically ill and undergoing regular dialysis treatment due to kidney failure.
During a live broadcast, the two media personalities expressed deep concern over Theo’s situation, urging Mbonyi to use his influence and success to organize or support a fundraising concert for his colleague, emphasizing that “true gospel ministry should be shown through acts of love.”
The appeal came after Theo Bosebabireba shared an emotional video on his YouTube channel on October 11, 2025, revealing the financial struggles he has faced while caring for his wife, Mushimyimana Marie Chantal (Mama Eric).
He explained that for ten months, he has been unable to work or perform, spending nearly 1.5 million Rwandan francs per month on medical treatment, and pleaded with the public for prayers and assistance. “I’m tired of begging,” he said, adding that small donations have not been enough to cover the high cost of dialysis three times a week.
Following the broadcast and public discussion, Theo later appeared on Isimbi TV on November 3, 2025, where he expressed gratitude toward Israel Mbonyi, revealing that the singer had reached out privately. “Israel Mbonyi sent someone to see me since he’s not in Rwanda. The person told me that Mbonyi himself will come to visit me soon,” Theo said, visibly emotional as he thanked his fellow artist for the gesture.
This act by Mbonyi has been widely appreciated by fans and believers, who view it as a reflection of Christian compassion and unity in the gospel music community. Many see it as a reminder that while fame and success are temporary, love and kindness remain the true measure of faith.
Through his thoughtful response, Israel Mbonyi has demonstrated the genuine spirit of brotherhood that KNC and Mutabaruka had urged gospel artists to embrace.
As Theo Bosebabireba continues to care for his wife, critically ill with kidney failure, the solidarity shown within Rwanda’s gospel community serves as a powerful testimony of living faith in action.
