How to live among your enemies in a Christian way that overcomes trials – Titus Ezra Sambay

On April 18, 2026, artist and teacher Titus Ezra Sambay from Tanzania shared a message via WhatsApp offering guidance on how to live among enemies in a Christian way that overcomes trials.

Titus Ezra Sambay is a trainer with the Mama Jusi Choir in Tanzania and a Gospel music teacher with extensive experience in mentoring singers. He is widely known for his role in helping renowned Gospel artist Rose Muhando develop her singing gift, earning him a strong reputation in advancing Gospel music in the region.

In human life, challenges are unavoidable. There are times when people may mistreat you or stand against you. However, what matters most is not the absence of enemies, but how you respond when you are among them.

In his teaching, Sambay referenced Psalm 23:5, which says: “You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies,” emphasizing that God does not immediately remove enemies, but gives grace to overcome while in their midst.

In this lesson, he outlined ten things a Christian should avoid when facing enemies. First is avoiding revenge, as the Bible says: “Do not take revenge” (Romans 12:19). He gave the example of David, who refused to kill Saul despite having the opportunity, teaching that true victory is not defeating your enemy, but conquering your own heart.

Second, he stressed avoiding angry words. Proverbs 15:1 says: “A gentle answer turns away wrath.” He warned that harsh words can destroy lives and blessings, as seen in the case of Moses, who struck the rock in anger and was denied entry into the Promised Land.

He also taught that one should avoid discouragement. Using the example of Joseph, who endured many hardships but did not give up until he became a ruler, he said: “Do not lose hope, God is the one who writes your ending.”

He further emphasized not stopping doing good. Romans 12:21 says: “Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.” He cited Jesus, who continued doing good even to those who persecuted Him, and Stephen, who prayed for those who stoned him.

Sambay also warned against complaining, noting that it weakens faith. Philippians 2:14 says: “Do everything without grumbling.” He referenced the Israelites in the wilderness, whose complaints prevented many from entering the Promised Land.

He highlighted the importance of staying close to God during trials, saying: “In times of suffering is when you need God the most.” He gave examples of Daniel and the three men in the fiery furnace, who remained faithful despite danger.

He also spoke about avoiding hatred. Jesus said: “Love your enemies” (Matthew 5:44). Sambay explained that forgiveness brings freedom to the heart.

Additionally, he advised guarding personal secrets, since not everyone is a true friend. He referenced Samson, who revealed his secret to Delilah and lost his strength. He also encouraged trusting in God rather than in one’s own strength, citing Proverbs 3:5.

Finally, he urged believers not to turn back from their faith, even under pressure. He gave the example of Paul and Silas, who praised God in prison until the doors were opened.

In conclusion, Titus Ezra Sambay reminded believers that enemies are not the end of their story, but a bridge to their testimony. He quoted Genesis 50:20: “You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good.” He encouraged people to remain prayerful, patient, free from hatred, and close to God, for He is the source of true victory.
