The Rise of Chryso Ndasingwa: From Hip-Hop to Gospel
Chryso’s journey into music began at the age of 17 when a friend taught him how to play the guitar and piano. This sparked his passion for music, and he started performing at local events, singing many of his own songs while playing the guitar. He describes his performances as moments when he could "connect with the people, like preaching the Word of God," adding a unique spiritual touch to his music.
Self-taught via YouTube, Chryso spent time mastering both instruments and began sharing his knowledge with others. Though he initially ventured into the world of hip-hop, inspired by artists like P Fla, Chryso’s life took a dramatic turn after his spiritual awakening.
He became a gospel artist, focusing his energy on creating music that glorifies God. As he puts it, "I work on whatever the Holy Spirit guides me to do," emphasizing that his music is solely intended to worship and honor God.
Born in Nyamirambo, Kigali, as the youngest of ten children, Chryso explains that his upbringing in a family of musicians played a significant role in shaping his path.
His grandfather was a renowned composer, and this influence, combined with the support of his church community, inspired him to pursue a career in music. Chryso is currently finishing his studies in Theology at the Africa College of Theology (ACT) in Kicukiro, Kigali, and he also holds a degree in Social Studies with Education.
Chryso’s music has gained popularity for its deeply spiritual and motivational themes. Tracks like "Ni Nziza", "Wahozeho", and "Wahinduye Ibihe" have resonated with many, and he continues to grow in his mission to bring people closer to Jesus through his music. He believes his music is a tool for sharing the gospel and bringing healing to people’s hearts. “My goal is to continue to show people Jesus, the one who heals hearts and gives eternal life,” he shares.
Looking ahead, Chryso is eager to expand his reach and collaborate with prominent African gospel artists such as Nathaniel Bassey and Sinach. He believes that the support of his fans, along with the prayers of his family and church, has played a crucial role in his success.
