Gospel singer Aline Gahongayire has launched a new awareness campaign aimed at fighting and preventing diabetes, a disease she has battled for 25 years.
The campaign began in November 2025, a month globally dedicated to raising awareness about diabetes, with November 14 marked as World Diabetes Day.
Aline Gahongayire said her goal is to use her voice and influence as an artist to spread awareness about diabetes, encouraging prevention and offering hope to those already affected. She explained that she will use her social media platforms to interact with patients and their families while encouraging others to get tested early.
The artist emphasized that diabetes can cause emotional distress and anxiety, making it important for patients to have people who offer encouragement and understanding.
Aline revealed that she suffered from diabetes for 25 years and, at one point, doctors even warned her that she might lose a leg. However, her life took a positive turn after receiving medical and educational support from Belle Vie, a health organization founded by Dr. Léonard Nduwayo.
Through this program, she received in-depth training on how to live with diabetes and was awarded a certificate given to patients who have completed diabetes management education. She now intends to use that knowledge to inspire and help others.
The gospel singer Aline Gahongayire is widely known for her powerful and inspiring songs that have deeply touched listeners across Rwanda and beyond. Some of her most popular hits include Ndanyuzwe, Izindi Mbaraga featuring Niyo Bosco, and Ibanga, among others.
These songs not only strengthened her reputation as one of Rwanda’s most beloved gospel artists but also showcased her unique voice and heartfelt messages of faith and resilience.
Aline Gahongayire’s campaign is a powerful example of turning personal pain into purpose. After battling diabetes for over two decades, she has chosen to use her experience to educate, encourage, and empower others living with the same condition.
Her message reminds everyone of the importance of early testing, awareness, and maintaining hope in the journey toward better health and well-being.
