In the face of swirling rumors and public speculation, Murava Annette, the wife of Bishop Gafaranga (real name Habiyaremye Zacharie), has broken her silence.
In a heartfelt message, she assured supporters that they are standing strong, not because of worldly support, but because of the unwavering love of God.
“When someone is in this world, they are in a constant battle. The righteous live by faith,” she began. “First of all, we are strong and doing well. Some of you who love us may have seen things that look different. You may hear me say ‘we’re fine’ and still throw stones at me, but just know that Jesus loves us, and God’s love for us hasn’t gone anywhere.”
She emphasized that their current situation does not reflect brokenness, but resilience built on faith. “So I and Bishop Gafaranga are strong because God loves us. I greet you in His name because I represent Him.”
Annette expressed her frustration with misinformation and gossip circulating about their relationship.
“To our followers, I want you to know we are okay. Whatever else you’ve heard, know that we will sit down and talk to you in due time. He’s a great speaker, while I mostly express myself through singing — that’s my calling from God.”
In a calm but firm tone, she defended their relationship, stating that her husband’s arrest does not imply any marital conflict.
“Let me make this clear: I, Annette Murava, and my husband, have no problems between us. If anyone wishes otherwise, they are wishing in vain. If you’ve never met me or him, have never visited us, and yet you are spreading rumors, ask yourself if what you’re saying is even accurate.”
On May 7, 2025, the Rwanda Investigation Bureau (RIB) confirmed the arrest of Bishop Gafaranga, also known as Habiyaremye Zacharie. According to RIB spokesperson Dr. Thierry Murangira:
“Yes, it is true that on May 7, 2025, RIB arrested Bishop Gafaranga, who is being investigated for crimes related to gender-based violence. He is currently held at the Nyamata RIB station while the investigation continues.”
While the RIB did not disclose details about the alleged victim, some unverified reports claim the case may be connected to his young wife, Annette Murava.
Annette responded to such speculation by drawing a biblical comparison: “If Job faced trials, who are we to avoid them? He had people trying to discourage him, urging him to renounce God and die. So, the fact that people are talking about us like this is not shocking.”
She concluded with hope, affirming that one day she and her husband will sit together again, united and joyful.
