Bishop Nikodemu Nayigiziki, who was the oldest priest in the Archdiocese of Kigali, passed away at the age of 94, he spent 64 of his years as a priest.
A statement issued by Antoine Cardinal Kambanda, says that Bishop Nikodemu Nayigiziki passed away in the early hours of Tuesday, July 4, 2023.
It goes on to say that the plan to accompany him with the sacrifice of the mass will be on Thursday, July 6, 2023 in the Parish Church of Regina Pacis, in Remera, and he will be buried in the cemetery of the priests in Ndera. He was the oldest among the priests of the Archdiocese of Kigali.
The Secretariat of the Archdiocese of Kigali reveals that Bishop Nicodème Nayigiziki was born in the year 1929 in the parish of Kayenzi, in the Diocese of Kabgayi. His parents are Thomas Rwalinda and Gaudence Nyiragatwakazi.
He received the sacrament of baptism on June 27, 1936 in Kabgayi, and he received the sacrament of confirmation on June 27, 1936 in Kabgayi. He studied primary school at Bunyonga school from 1938 to 1943.
He studied high school in Kabgayi at St. Leo’s Minor Seminary from 1943 to 1949. He studied at the Major Seminary in Nyakibanda from 1949 to 1959. He was ordained a priest on March 30, 1959.

In 1959 he became an assistant priest [Vicar] in Kibungo parish, and in charge of Catholic schools, in 1963 Vicar in Rutongo parish, in 1964 Vicar in Cyeza parish and Vicar in St. Michael parish.
In 1966 he became the High Priest of the Sainte Famille parish, in 1976 he was the Director of the Minor Seminary of Saint-Paul, in 1979 he was the High Priest of the St. Michael Parish, in 1995 he became the Secretary of the Archdiocese of Kigali.
In 1997 he became the High Priest of the parish of Musha, in 2007 he became the assistant priest in the Parish of St Michel. In 2016 he retired and continue living at Archevêché [Bishop’s seat].
