Tasha Cobbs Leonard’s Comeback: New Album “TASHA” Debuts at No. 1 After Near Exit from Music
Grammy-winning gospel artist Tasha Cobbs Leonard has returned to the top of the charts with her self-titled album TASHA, which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Top Gospel Albums, marking her sixth time reaching the top spot. But behind this remarkable achievement lies a deeply personal story of doubt, surrender, and divine redirection.
Released on July 25, 2025, through Motown Gospel, TeeLee Gospel, and Capitol CMG, the album blends pop, hip-hop, and nostalgic ‘80s R&B sounds. It features collaborations with top artists including Lecrae (“I Needed God”), John Legend (“Church”), Chandler Moore (“I Want More”), and Kirk Franklin (“I Still Choose You”). Notably, her song Church debuted at No. 5 on Billboard’s Top Gospel Songs chart.
In addition to topping the Gospel Albums Chart, TASHA debuted at No. 41 on the Top Album Sales and No. 28 on the Top Current Album Sales charts, demonstrating its broad appeal and commercial impact.
But in a heartfelt message posted on Instagram, Tasha revealed a surprising truth: this album almost never happened.
“I was literally planning to retire my music hat… I tried to convince myself that my time had passed,” she confessed. “I had made peace with quietly stepping into other things. But GOD!”
Feeling as though her season of music had ended, Tasha had internally settled on moving into other ventures. But through what she describes as a divine reminder, she came to realize that “purpose doesn’t expire, it develops, it grows.”
With fresh conviction, she poured her soul into TASHA, resulting in a record that not only revitalized her career but touched thousands of listeners.
“I’m overwhelmed with gratitude to God, who continues to overwhelm me with His grace, His mercy, and His kindness,” she wrote. “To everyone who has supported this album, every stream, every share, every testimony, every prayer, I don’t take it lightly.”
She went on to thank her husband and producer Kenneth Leonard Jr., the engineering and mixing team, background vocalists, musicians, songwriters, and her management team for bringing her vision to life.
“Every single song is exactly what I envisioned!” she wrote. “This one was peculiar and so special… and you knocked it out of the park!”
The success of TASHA is more than just a chart milestone it’s a spiritual and emotional victory. For Tasha Cobbs Leonard, this moment stands as proof that obedience to God’s call, even after seasons of doubt, can lead to unimaginable fruit.
And for fans across the world, TASHA isn’t just an album — it’s a testimony
