Putting God First Every Day: Pastor Christian Gisanura's Message for the Start of 2026

As the first month of 2026 begins, believers have been reminded of the importance of focusing on gratitude, worship, and walking closely with God.

Pastor Christian Gisanura elaborated on this call in a teaching rooted in Psalm 63:2–4, emphasizing that a Christian’s life should reflect harmony between words, thoughts, and actions in relation to God.

Psalm 63:2–4 says:
“O God, you are my God; earnestly I seek you;
my soul thirsts for you,
my flesh faints for you,
as in a dry and weary land where there is no water.
So I have looked upon you in the sanctuary,
beholding your power and glory.
Because your steadfast love is better than life,
my lips will praise you.”

In his teaching, Pastor Gisanura reflected on the life of David as a psalmist and worshiper of God, explaining that David was not merely someone who spoke spiritual words, but one who lived what he proclaimed.

He noted that David carried an awareness of God within him, which should also characterize the life of every Christian—where one’s “yes” is truly yes, and one’s “no” is truly no.

He said, “If you love God, love Him with your whole being: in your thoughts, in your speech, and in your conduct.” Pastor Gisanura stressed that although David was a hero, a king, a mighty warrior, wealthy, and surrounded by many earthly pleasures, he still rose early to seek God first. This, he said, should challenge every believer to ask themselves, “Then who are you?”

The pastor reminded believers that each day is a gift from God, not something we earn, and therefore it should not be lived carelessly without gratitude to the One who gives it. He emphasized that a Christian should seek God first and give Him the highest priority, while everything else should come second.

Reflecting further on Psalm 63, Pastor Gisanura focused on David’s words, “My soul thirsts for you,” explaining that no one thirsts for something they do not love. He encouraged believers to cultivate the habit of rising early to pray and read the Bible, acknowledging that it may be difficult at first, but with consistency, it becomes a cherished way of life.

He noted that once a person becomes accustomed to seeking God, living without prayer becomes difficult. “The primary work of a Christian is to pray and commune with God,” he said. “Everything else we do is an addition.” He added that every believer should discover the purpose for which they were created and treat it as central to their life, because it is what pleases God.

Speaking about the Holy Spirit, Pastor Gisanura reminded believers that the Holy Spirit does not dwell in impurity or disorder, but delights in a clean and orderly environment. He illustrated this by pointing out that even homes with limited resources can be clean and well-prepared to host the presence of the Holy Spirit.

He further explained that fellowship with God is not only spiritual, but also physical, since our bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit.

“If you are a Christian, you no longer belong to yourself alone,” he said. “Your body should be used according to the will of its Owner, because it belongs to Christ.” He urged believers to be mindful of how they use their bodies and to live in ways that allow God to continually dwell with them.

In closing, Pastor Christian Gisanura called on believers to walk with God in everything they do, to seek Him at all times, noting that failing to seek God makes it difficult to find Him. He explained that walking with God protects a person from sin, fights their battles in life, and helps them avoid being led astray by everything they see.

He concluded by reminding believers that this first month of the year is dedicated to thanksgiving and worship, encouraging every Christian to take it as a special time to draw closer to God and to place Him first in every area of life.
