Power of the Cross Ministries Visits Kigali Genocide Memorial at Gisozi

On July 22, 2025, Power of the Cross Ministries visited the Kigali Genocide Memorial located at Gisozi, paying tribute to the victims of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi.

During the visit, team members were taken through the historical background of the Genocide against the Tutsi, laying wreaths in honor of the innocent lives lost.

The emotional and reflective tour came just two days after their major gospel event “There is Still Hope” [Haracyari Ibyiringiro] held in Kimironko on July 20, 2025 — a revival gathering meant to uplift hearts, restore hope, and remind many that God continues to heal and forgive.

They witnessed harrowing evidence of the genocide: remains of victims, photographs, testimonies, personal belongings, and clothes — a deeply moving experience. One of the guests, Joe, a friend of the Power of the Cross Ministries from the United States, remarked:

“It was hard to utter a word after seeing what people went through. Emotion said more than words ever could.”

Joe accompanied Maurice Ndatabaye, the Global Director of Power of the Cross Ministries, who returned to Rwanda for the first time in two and a half years after residing in the United States.

Maurice expressed deep gratitude to Clementine, a long-standing member of the ministry, who led the memorial tour, narrated the history, and showed them the section where her own mother and other relatives are buried.

He recalled meeting Clementine at church back in 2004, saying: “Clementine, stay strong. You’ve always been strong.”

For Clementine, the visit was deeply personal. “My mother is buried here,” she shared. Her father had passed away before the Genocide against the Tutsi, while her mother was killed during the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi. She was only three years old at the time.

“Though I lost my family, receiving Christ helped me overcome despair. The wounds may be deep, but they won’t last forever. We must continue to resist genocide denial, especially on social media. Anyone who visits this memorial should never trivialize what happened.”

Manowa Ntisinzira, the Rwanda Country Director for Power of the Cross Ministries, also shared a powerful testimony: “My name is Ntisinzira — which means ‘I have no other path.’ My father gave me this name after losing 11 siblings and his own father in the genocide.

He believed he’d never have a family again. But God never sleeps. He gave him a future and a family. Orphanhood and hardship do not mean God is silent. There is still hope.”
Manowa emphasized that those who survived were not spared by accident — they have a purpose: to protect life, right the wrongs, and carry forward the message of peace.

On their official social media, the ministry wrote: “We visited the Kigali Genocide Memorial at Gisozi. We honor and remember the victims of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi. Never Forget. Haracyari Ibyiringiro (There is Still Hope).”

The team described the day as solemn and transformative — reinforcing the message behind their recent gathering in Kimironko.
Maurice concluded:

“History should never remain just words. It must shape our future. Though the past is painful, there is still hope.”

This memorial visit was part of a broader campaign by Power of the Cross Ministries in July 2025 under the theme: “There is Still Hope”. The ministry combined evangelism with acts of compassion and restoration:

July 6, 2025 – They provided school supplies to 100 children at E.P. Cyeru in Masaka Sector, Kicukiro District, offering hope through education.

July 16, 2025 – In Rugalika Sector, Kamonyi District, they donated four cows to four vulnerable families in partnership with U.S.-based sponsors. The initiative aimed to empower communities and give them a sustainable future.

Local authorities and ministry representatives expressed their belief that the cows would significantly improve the beneficiaries’ livelihoods.

For the past 18 years, Power of the Cross Ministries has been active both in Rwanda and abroad, showing that the gospel is most powerful when accompanied by tangible love.

As Manowa Ntisinzira summed it up: “True evangelism is seen in action.”

“The true gospel is visible in action.”- Said Manoah
