As the new year began, Pastor Christian Gisanura delivered a powerful teaching on starting the year by praising God, with a particular focus on worship and dancing for Him.
The sermon, titled “A Month of Worship and Thanksgiving,” highlighted that beginning the year by worshiping God is one of the best practices, as it strengthens one’s relationship with Him, referencing Psalm 150:4-6:
"Praise Him with the sound of the trumpet,
Praise Him with the harp and lyre,
Praise Him with tambourine and dancing,
Praise Him with strings and flute,
Praise Him with the clash of cymbals,
Praise Him with resounding cymbals.
Let everything that has breath praise the Lord. Hallelujah."
Pastor Gisanura explained that worship is a form of complete devotion to God, encompassing singing, dancing, and pleasing Him with the whole spirit of the believer.
He said: "God created us in His image. If we experience joy, anger, or sorrow, He feels similarly. He loves to be praised, loved, and celebrated. Just as we were created, God too is relational—He loves those who love Him, trust Him, and approach Him as a parent or friend."
The pastor encouraged believers to live joyfully with God and to actively engage with Him spiritually. He noted that sometimes dancing for God is a way to please Him:
"If your legs are healthy and you can move, why not dance for God?"
He shared an example of a 90-year-old man who loved dancing for God despite his limited strength, emphasizing that younger believers are more capable and should not let worldly work or recognition take priority over worship. He stressed that dancing for God is a personal act, not reserved only for pastors or a select few.
Pastor Gisanura referred to King David, a mighty warrior and king, who loved dancing for God despite his high status, asking: "Why shouldn’t we humble ourselves before Him? Worshiping, singing to, and dancing for God is nothing to be ashamed of."
He also addressed the issue of artists charging money to perform for God, calling it inappropriate: "Truly, I am concerned about people who charge others to sing praises to God.
You should sing for your God. You were given talents freely, so you should give them freely.
God will protect you from greed, because mixing money with God’s work is wrong."
He continued: "If you seek blessings from God through people and charge them, you’ve already received your reward. God will not give you another reward. If you serve God and get paid by humans, know that God will not reward you. If you want God’s reward, do not charge others."
Giving practical advice, he said: "When you sing for God but charge people, you are making a mistake. You should let them give freely. If you do it for money, money becomes your master. Let everything that has breath praise the Lord."
Pastor Gisanura encouraged everyone to actively participate in worship and dance for God—through singing, playing drums, guitar, piano, and other instruments—to bring Him joy:
"Let everything that has breath praise the Lord. Everyone should find their own way to honor God."
This teaching focused on dancing as an expression of worship. Pastor Gisanura urged believers to maintain this practice daily, to dance for God, please Him, and pour out their hearts in love and devotion.
