After a decade away from Rwanda, Miss Kundwa Doriane, the 2015 Miss Rwanda titleholder, returned to her home country, sharing her journey and the challenges she faced during her reign in a special gathering for women organized by Women Foundation Ministries.
The event, held on Sunday, January 4, 2026, at Kigali Serena Hotel, was themed “Restored to Do It Again” and led by Apostle Mignonne Kabera of Women Foundation Ministries and Noble Family Church.
The gathering, coordinated by the Girls Impact Ministry, aimed to empower women and girls, encouraging them to embrace second chances and reaffirming that faith in God can overcome obstacles.
The theme of the event was inspired by Ezekiel 36:26, which speaks of receiving a new heart and a new spirit: "I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh."
During her speech, Miss Kundwa Doriane expressed deep gratitude to Apostle Mignonne Kabera for organizing the event and welcoming her back to Rwanda after ten years abroad.
She said, "I want to thank Apostle Mignonne for this opportunity. I had been away from Rwanda for ten years, and returning for this kind of gathering is truly heartwarming. Even after all those years, I was received like a child returning home."
Reflecting on her journey to becoming Miss Rwanda, Doriane revealed that she had not originally aspired to win the crown. Her participation came unexpectedly and required her to quickly adapt.
"Joining Miss Rwanda wasn’t something I prayed for intensely or dreamed about. It came unexpectedly, through friends who encouraged me and signed me up, sometimes even before I fully understood what I was doing," she explained.
Despite her victory, she emphasized that challenges were significant, especially given her youth, she was only 19 years old at the time.
"Even with God’s blessing and the honor of winning, the challenges were real and heavy. I was young, inexperienced, and still learning to navigate life outside my sheltered family environment," she added.
Doriane attributes her resilience to growing up in a faith-filled household and actively participating in Women Foundation Ministries from 2011. She consistently sought prayer and guidance from Apostle Mignonne whenever she faced difficulties.
"Growing up in a spiritual home and church nurtured me. I learned to rely on God in every step I took, which helped me face the challenges of being Miss Rwanda and has carried me through to today," she reflected.
After her return from Canada, Miss Kundwa Doriane reunited with former Miss Rwanda titleholders, including Miss Nishimwe Naomie, Miss Muheto Divine, and Miss Akiwacu Colombe, sharing experiences and celebrating their journeys in pageantry and faith.
Through her testimony, Miss Doriane continues to inspire women and girls, showing that faith in God, perseverance, and community support are essential to overcoming obstacles and embracing life’s second chances.
