Artist Israel Mbonyi continues to show that gospel music and worship are equally deserving of recognition, as he continues to represent the genre and receive awards. For the second time at the IMA (Isango na Muzika Awards), he won the Best Gospel Artist award.
Among the many awards given in various categories, the most exciting part is that one of those categories was for the Best Gospel Artist of 2024. Israel Mbonyi, who made history in music this year, added another award to those he won in previous years, winning the Best Gospel Artist award, in addition to the two awards he took home last year at the IMA Awards.
On the evening of December 22, 2024, after receiving the award, he expressed his gratitude, saying, "I thank God, I have been blessed again. 2024 is a wonderful year. Among the people who praise God, I am also there. I have made progress, I did God’s work, and many have been saved."
Last year, in 2023, he also won two awards, Best Male Artist of the Year and Best Gospel Artist.
Factors contributing to Israel Mbonyi’s success this year include the release of many songs that crossed Rwanda’s borders, and the fact that he performed in various locations, including East Africa. Wherever he performed, audiences packed the venues, something not easily achieved by any other artist.
Among the artists whose music was widely viewed in Kenya, he ranked first for gospel music in 2024, securing the top spot in Rwanda across all music genres, and placing fifth overall in the general ranking.
Sikiliza was his first release this year. It is his third song with the most views on YouTube, following Nina Siri and Nita Amini.
After Sikiliza, he released Yanitosha, Heri Taifa, Kaa Nami, Uwe Hai, and Abiringiye Uwiteka. All of these songs have been watched by millions of people.
