Discover Your True Identity and Speak Boldly, "Abba, Father" - Pastor Gisanura

On February 11, 2026, Pastor Christian Gisanura continued his February teaching series under the main theme “Knowing Who You Are”, focusing this time on the subtopic: “You Are a Child of God If You Have Christ Jesus.”

He emphasized that being a child of God is the highest honor anyone can possess, a name greater than any other title that has existed or will exist on earth. He explained that a person’s value is not measured by possessions, social status, or personal strength, but by the relationship they have with God through Jesus Christ.

Pastor Gisanura reminded believers that being a child of God means being a child of the Creator of heaven and earth, endowed with authority over the visible and invisible, wisdom, and divine protection.

He stated, “Just as a young animal does not approach a lion or dare to play with it, so an enemy cannot approach a child of God who knows who they are. God is the Lion, and we, His children, are the only ones who can interact with Him closely. Anyone who is not His child cannot come near.”

He encouraged Christians to rejoice in being children of God, noting that it is strange to see believers living in fear, anxiety, and despair, while they were born into God’s family to be free from these chains. He pointed out that many Christians live without truly knowing their identity and therefore cannot fully enjoy their position in Christ.

Drawing from Romans 8:15, he said: “You have not received a spirit of slavery that brings fear, but you have received the Spirit that makes you children of God, crying out, ‘Abba Father.’” He highlighted that fear is a major challenge for many believers.

He explained that fear arises from losing love and hope, because a fearful person does not truly know whom they trust. “Someone who lives in fear lives as if they are unaware that they are a child of God, even if they speak it with their lips,” he said, adding that Satan uses fear to destabilize people, rob them of sleep, and make them feel hopeless.

He gave the example of Elijah, who had performed great miracles and defeated the prophets of Baal with God’s fire, but later fled from Jezebel out of fear. Even though Elijah was a powerful prophet, fear caused him to lose focus, and God reassigned some of his responsibilities to Elisha. This illustrates how fear can make a person miss blessings and their calling.

Pastor Gisanura encouraged believers to pray for God’s help in overcoming fear, explaining that fear may come, but a child of God always has refuge and a firm position. He reminded them that they are no longer who they were before Christ saved them—they have been transformed into children of God.

He also reflected on Jesus’ own experience, referencing Mark 14:34, showing that Jesus felt fear because He had a human body, yet He surrendered to the Father, saying, “Abba, Father.”

Pastor Gisanura urged believers to approach God with their problems as children, saying, “Abba Father, I need You,” while trusting that God’s plan is higher than personal desires.
He gave a practical example from everyday life, comparing God’s guidance to a parent setting rules for children: teaching, correcting, and shaping them. Similarly, God instructs His children, not as someone distant, but as a loving parent.

In conclusion, he reminded believers that those who accept Christ are no longer slaves to sin, lies, immorality, drunkenness, or other vices, but are God’s children and heirs. He emphasized that a child of God should live with confidence, free from fear, fully enjoying their identity, and trusting the Heavenly Father who called them.
