Chrysostome Ndasingwa popularly known as Chryso Ndasingwa in songs of worship and praise of God is one of the best Gospel artists that Rwanda has today. Who is this young man?
Chryso Ndasingwa is the fourth child in their family, who still has both parents, his father and mother. He was born in Nyamirambo Sector, Nyarugenge District, Kigali City.
He grew up in a family of Christians who pray in the Catholic Church, but when he grew up he left it and went to the New Life Bible Church, where he is currently pray.
He says that his parents were the foundation for him to start singing. Growing up in a religious family gave him many opportunities in his path to become an artist, because at the age of 17 he started learning to play the Guitar.
Talking to The New Times, he says: “My family used to sing, they always sang morning devotions at home, for example. When I started growing up, I joined some choirs where I not only sang but also became a leader.”
This young man who describes himself as a young man who grew up thirsting to serve God continued saying: “At the age of 17 I started to play Guitar and Piano. A friend taught me a little, but I could sit and teach myself with the help of YouTube tutorials. After, I started to teach others."
He himself, says that he started music in 2020, when Rwanda and the whole world was threatened by the Corona Virus Pandemic (COVID-19), where some activities including those of artists were stopped. The first video on his YouTube channel was released in mid-2020.
It was in 2021 that he started releasing some of his most popular songs. He released a single called ’Mubwihisho (can be translated like In Hiding Place)’ on March 20, 2021, and continued with other songs including Ndakwihaye(I give myself to you), Wakinguye Ijuru (You Opened the Heaven) and others.
His most viewed songs on the YouTube channel where he has almost 60 thousand subscribers, it is called Wahozeho (You are infinite, you are endless) which has been viewed more than a million and 500 thousand times, which was released on October 19, 2022, followed by Ni Nziza (God is Good) which has also been viewed more than a million times in almost eight months of its realize.
Since he started music in 2020, around 2021 according to the release date of his song, he has held one concert in a multi-purpose hall known as BK Arena, which holds tens of thousands of people. He is the second artist who makes his own music in Rwanda who managed to fill people in this building, because some tried and failed. Another one who did it was Israel Mbonyi.
This concert which took place on May 05, 2024, was called based on one of his most popular songs known as Wahozeho, which is why it was called Wahozeho Album Launch, the name Wahozeho and is the name of the album he released which has18 songs.
In real life he is a music teacher and as he does, he never plans to do anything other than gospel. Chryso Ndasingwa is a teacher by profession, and holds a diploma in teaching Social Studies. He is also currently pursuing a Bachelors degree in Theology and Christian Leadership at the Africa College of Theology (ACT).
He says that making music to worship and praise God is different from making Secular Music, because Gospel is evangelism, which is why he is able to achieve more in terms of prayer. He said: "It’s not just me but behind us there are a lot of people who are praying for us and supporting us in different ways to keep working."
He also dreams of making collaborations with famous singers like Nigeria’s Sinach and Nathaniel Bassey, and doing concerts in Europe, the United States of America and Canada.
