Rotaractors of Rotaract Club of Kigali City and their friends donated some of their items to the teen moms and their babies

The Rotaract Club of Kigali City (RCKC) under the sponsorship of the Rotary Club of Kigali Virunga, donated products that include Nootri Baby, solid foods, and clothes to the teen moms and their babies as well as sewing machines

The Rotaract Club of Kigali City (RCKC) was established in June 2013 under the sponsorship of the Rotary Club of Kigali Virunga. It aims to develop young professionals in Rwanda into responsible citizens who give back to the community. The club has around 30 members aged 18 to 35, focusing on finding innovative solutions to community challenges, enhancing leadership skills, and building lasting friendships.

RCKC’s main areas of intervention align with Rotary International’s focus, with a special interest in Education, Water, and Sanitation. Key projects include the Spelling Bee competition for students aged 10 to 15, a biennial fundraising project to provide sewing machines to young adults with diabetes, and the Mtoto wa Afrika project in partnership with the Rotaract Club of Kampala Kibuli to support HIV+ students and raise awareness on HIV/AIDS.

Additionally, the club’s "Sharing is Caring" project supports a needy family of 12 children headed by an elderly lady, providing basic household items, scholastic materials, and spending time with the children. The Nyaconga School Project aims to promote a reading culture among students in a reading-friendly environment to empower them to make a positive impact on their community.

The Teen Mum Incubation Program, initiated by Saye Company, aims to empower teenage mothers by providing them with sewing skills and comprehensive support to combat teenage pregnancies and menstrual stigma. The program seeks to equip these young women with the knowledge and confidence to start their own income-generating ventures, fostering self-reliance and success.

Teenage pregnancies and menstrual stigma have negative social and economic impacts on teenage mothers, leading to financial instability and limited access to skills training. The program focuses on providing essential sewing skills to empower these young women and break the cycle of poverty.

RCKC members visited the program and appreciated the support provided to teen mothers by SAYE. They aim to contribute to the economic sustainability of the mothers and support their children by purchasing sewing machines, sewing materials, baby items, and hiring baby sitters. The objective is to ensure financial independence for the teen mothers and support their children during sewing training.

The expected outcomes of the project include well-trained teen mothers in sewing, children being well taken care of during the training period, and the provision of food and care for the children by baby sitters. RCKC plans to divide the project into two phases, with Phase I focusing on providing sewing machines, materials, and donations of clothes and shoes to the teen mothers and children.

Phase 1 budget includes food for babies and moms, sewing machines, sewing materials, transport, and photography, totaling 1,000,000.

Phase 2 budget consists of toys and books for 10 kids, baby mats, books and colors, food for babies, babysitters, sewing machines, and sewing materials, totaling 8,070,000.

The President Elect of this RCKC is Silas Anditi, the representative from Africa Improved food (AIF) is Patricia Allen Garuka, and they are its sponsor and provided cartoons of Nootri baby. The owner of SAYE NGO is Amina Umuhoza, and the Vice President Elect is Alice Mutesi
