In Karongi a new mission was given after the opening [home] of the new cathedral called “Saint Peter’s”. In this ceremony that took place on August 13, 2023, six deacons were ordained, they commissioned a Canon and prayed for those who give and teach the word of God in the Diocese of Karongi.

Among those who were given evangelical duties, was Yvonne Mutakwasuku who was appointed as a Deacon, ndetse na Dr. Violette Ayingeneye who manages Kibuye Hospital, who ordained as a Canon.

Mutakwasuku, who was sent to Nyange Zone, on behalf of those who were anointed in deaconate, said that the tasks given to them were chosen by God and they are ready to do them. She said, "We have accepted the call and continue to support us in all means."

She thanked God that he found them to be trustworthy and entrusted them with his work. He emphasized that they have started a new journey, with enthusiasm and unwavering faith that Christ will enable them.

Mutakwasuku is known in the local community as she served as the Mayor of Muhanga for eight years, from April 2, 2008 to January 29, 2016. She is currently the Director General of the Non-Governmental Organization, Bureau Social de Développement (BSD), which operates in Muhanga.

Mutakwasuku started preaching the message of God from her birthplace in Nyange Sector, Ngobagoba Cell in Ngororero District. She is credited for having contributed to the initiation of the Women of Hope Society which helps in improving marital relations and home development.

Others ordained with Rev Mutakwasuku in Deacon Ministry include Rev. Masengesho Obed, Rev. Himbaza Augustin, Rev. Tuyishime Sylvere, Rev. Ikomeze Martin and Rev. Nyiramana Emmanuelie. The ordained pastor is Rev. Nshyimiyimana Jean Marie Vianney.

The duties of the deacon are to help the pastor to pray with the people in the church, especially he helps him to send Holy Communion, teach the catechism, baptize children and adults when the bishop gives him the right, and he should ask to know those who sick, the poor and the disabled to inform the congregation so they can get help.

Bishop Dr. Sam Mugisha, who leads the Diocese of Shyira, reminded the deacons that when they know Christ they are empowered. He asked them to look and talk to Jesus who called them so he can warn them not to follow things or become discouraged.

The homecoming ceremony at the "Saint Peter’s" Cathedral in Karongi was attended by people from different sectors including Anglican leaders and those in the State administration such as the Karongi District Mayor, Mukarutesi Vestine.

This ceremony before it was open by Bishop Methode J.P Rukundo , it began with the tour of three Bishops namely Bishop Dr. Gered Karimba of EAR Diocese of Shyogwe, Bishop Nathan Rusengo Amooti of EAR Diocese of Kigali and Bishop Dr. Sam Mugisha of EAR Diocese of Shyira.

In the three years since its inception, the Missionary Diocese of Karongi has carried out activities costing about 235,000,000 Frw, which include educating parishioners at the university level, buying land where the church will operates on, building shelters and churches, helping women who are housewives to cope with the effects of COVID -19 etc.
