Rwandan worship minister Theophile Twagirayezu, one of the respected names in Rwanda’s praise and worship music scene, has earned a Postgraduate Diploma in Theology (PGD in Theology), adding a new academic milestone to his journey in ministry.
Twagirayezu received the qualification on August 14, 2026, from Africa College of Theology, based in Kicukiro, Kigali.
A Postgraduate Diploma in Theology is an advanced programme that explores Christian theology, biblical studies, church history, Christian teachings, and the role of the Church in society.
For someone involved in ministry, theological education can provide a stronger foundation for understanding Scripture, interpreting Christian teachings, and communicating biblical messages more thoughtfully.
For Twagirayezu, this academic achievement comes alongside years of serving God through music and teaching. He says his goal is to continue sharing the message of Jesus Christ not only through songs, but also through the Word of God.
Twagirayezu is also back in active music ministry after spending about 15 years away from the music scene. He returned in 2023 and has since been working on new music and reconnecting with the audience that had missed his work.
He began his musical journey in 2006, the same year he released his first song. He became known for songs including “Iri Maso” and “Ngwino Umare Inyota,” which he recorded with singer Angélique.
Beyond music, Twagirayezu is a university lecturer and also works at the National Bank of Rwanda (BNR). He is married, having tied the knot in December 2013, and worships at Assemblies of God Gatsata in Kigali.
Twagirayezu says one of the things he appreciates most about Rwanda’s music industry today is the growing ability of local artists to create original music across different genres and generations.
“Rwandan artists have become skilled at producing original music of different styles, both older and younger generations.”
He also points to music’s growing role as a business and source of income. “Music has increasingly become a business that visibly supports people.”
Another development he highlights is the growing reach of Rwandan music beyond the country’s borders. “Rwandan music now reaches other countries in the region and beyond.”
For Twagirayezu, bringing together talent, knowledge and calling is an important part of effective ministry. With his new qualification in theology, he is looking to deepen his work of using both music and the Word of God to share the message of Jesus Christ with more people.
