His debut single, "Garuka" (Return), marks the beginning of a ministry dedicated to leading people back to God with a unique blend of Hip Hop Gospel and biblical truth.

Born on March 29, 2001, in Kimanzi Village, Mugari Cell, Shingiro Sector, Musanze District, Northern Province of Rwanda, Jean grew up in different parts of Rwanda due to his parents’ work and educational responsibilities. His childhood took him from Musanze to Busogo, Rubavu, Huye, and back to Musanze, exposing him to different cultures and experiences that later shaped his worldview and ministry.

From an early age, Jean developed a deep passion for music. As a child, he loved listening to old radio sets and would always ask his parents to leave one for him whenever they went away. Whether doing household chores or relaxing, music was always playing nearby. Alongside this passion, he faithfully attended children’s prayer meetings every Wednesday, where he developed a love for worship, prayer, and Christian teaching.

Academically, Jean pursued excellence. After completing his primary education at Nyamulimirwa Primary School and Busogo I Primary School, he attended College de Gisenyi Inyemeramihigo for his Ordinary Level studies before joining Ecole des Sciences de Musanze, where he studied Physics, Chemistry, and Biology (PCB) for Advanced Level.

He later enrolled at the University of Rwanda – Huye Campus, graduating with a Bachelor’s Degree with Honors in Pharmacy. Today, besides being a Gospel musician, he is a professional pharmacist.

Jean first responded to an altar call on May 19, 2013, while worshipping in RAJEPRA Church. Although he initially believed Christianity was mainly about attending church services, giving offerings, and participating in church activities, his understanding of salvation deepened after joining university in 2019.

There, through Bible study groups and discipleship led by Christian mentors such as Kwizera Isaac, Gashugi Yves, and several student fellowship leaders, he experienced a more personal relationship with Jesus Christ and discovered his calling to share the Gospel with others.

His church has played a central role in his spiritual growth, helping him discover his gifts and providing an environment where his ministry could develop. Jean believes the church is not merely an institution but a place where believers are trained to fulfill God’s purpose in their lives, inspired by Proverbs 22:6.

Jean’s musical journey began in Sunday School, where he participated in children’s choirs before co-founding youth groups such as Children Group and later Good Vision. Together with fellow young believers, they organized concerts and performed Gospel songs in their local church. Interestingly, even at a young age, Jean naturally gravitated toward Hip Hop, while many of his friends preferred traditional singing.

As educational responsibilities increased, his music temporarily paused. However, in 2021, after growing spiritually through Bible study and prayer, he felt the Holy Spirit reviving the gift that had remained dormant for years. He became convinced that God had specifically called him to preach Christ through music.

Choosing Hip Hop Gospel was not accidental. Jean believes Jesus never limited the methods of evangelism but simply commanded His followers to "Go." According to him, different people connect with different musical styles, and Hip Hop offers an effective platform to reach audiences who might never listen to conventional Gospel music.

He often explains that music style itself is not holy or sinful, the message determines whether a song glorifies Christ.

Inspired by Romans 10:14–17, Jean sees himself as one of those called to ensure people hear the message of Jesus Christ. He frequently compares his ministry to fishing, explaining that fishermen use different methods depending on the fish they want to catch. Likewise, he uses Hip Hop as one tool among many to bring souls to Christ.

Unlike many artists who adopt stage names, Jean De La Confidence is his birth name given by his parents. He chose to keep it exactly as it was, believing God’s purpose was already attached to the name.

His first official release, "Garuka," was written together with Thierry Niyo, a respected Gospel artist he met after a church service. Their shared passion for evangelism led to a collaboration that took approximately three to four months to complete, from writing to production.

"Garuka" carries a universal message of repentance and restoration. The song first calls those who have never accepted Christ to return to their Creator. It also encourages believers who have drifted away from God to come back, while reminding listeners that true life and lasting hope are found only in Jesus Christ.

Although "Garuka" is his debut single, Jean views it as only the opening chapter of a much bigger ministry. He already has many songs prepared and believes each future release will reveal another part of the message God has entrusted to him. Rather than producing isolated songs, he envisions every release as another page in one continuing story of faith.

Beyond music, Jean enjoys reading, especially books on Christian spirituality and financial wisdom, writing songs, playing sports, studying the Bible, listening to sermons, and spending time in meditation and prayer.

His greatest life ambition is not fame but fulfilling every good work God prepared for him before the foundation of the world, as described in Ephesians 2:10. Above all, he desires to see people come to know Jesus Christ and experience genuine transformation.

To young people with talents, Jean offers a simple but powerful message: do not bury the gift God has given you. He believes talents are both a responsibility and a channel through which God blesses people spiritually and materially.

His message to the world remains straightforward: "Jesus loves you. He did not come to condemn you but to save you. If you are tired, broken, discouraged, or far from God... Garuka—Return."

With his distinctive blend of Hip Hop, biblical depth, and heartfelt evangelism, Mbonimpa Jean De La Confidence is emerging as one of Rwanda’s promising new voices in Gospel music, beginning his career with a clear vision: to make Christ known, one song at a time.
